"Historic Gardening in Your Backyard" at Boscobel - January 31, 2023
PGC’s Horticulture and Garden History & Design Committees and Boscobel House and Gardens co-sponsored a presentation by John Forti, “The Heirloom Gardener,” at Boscobel’s beautiful Lila Room. The talk, which was open to the public as well as PGC, attracted over 50 interested garden aficionados on a Tuesday afternoon. Titled “Historic Gardening in Your Backyard,” it explored the history of gardening and provided insights for modern gardeners to include historical elements in their gardens. Ranging over four hundred years of American gardening traditions, John identified those design elements that make gardens appropriate to a particular era. The presentation made it easy to see why he is such a sought-after speaker and successful author. His recent, highly acclaimed book, “The Heirloom Gardener: Traditional Plants and Skills for the Modern World” has been warmly received by the gardening community and is a best seller. PGC is grateful to Boscobel House and Gardens for co-hosting this event.
